Mastodons Fall to IU in Last Minute Thriller

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW women's basketball team fought a tough battle against Indiana, but the Mastodons came up short, falling 79-72 at home to the Hoosiers.
Kamilah Carter scored a team-high 23 points, with 17 coming in the first half. Carter also pulled down five rebounds and made a game-high three steals. De'Jour Young was the only other Mastodon player in double-digit scoring with 13.
Rachel Rinehart had a team-high four assists and five rebounds, while KeShyra McCarver added eight points and five rebounds for the 'Dons.
IPFW was in the game from the start, winning the opening tip, and scoring the first points of the night with a layup from Carter. Josie Fisher played well defensively in the first half, forcing turnovers and helping the Mastodons to score seven points off turnovers in the first quarter.
The 'Dons were able to cut the Hoosier's lead to seven at the 2:00 mark of the second quarter, but went into the half trailing 45-32.
After a fast-paced first half, IPFW outscored Indiana in the third quarter, 21-15, to cut the Hoosier's lead down to 60-53 at the end of the period.
The fourth quarter saw the 'Dons get into foul trouble, as three players eventually foul out of the game in Carter, Fisher, and Rinehart. The Mastodons pressured the Hoosiers in the final minutes, going on an 11-2 run, but were only able to pull within four with 47 seconds remaining.
The Mastodons connected on 27-of-72 (37.5%) from the field, including 5-of-19 (26.3%) from long range, and 13-of-18 (72.2%) from the charity stripe.
IPFW is back at home on November 29 for a 2 p.m. tip-off against Western Michigan.
