Late Rally Not Enough For IPFW to Overcome Early Deficit

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - A 13-0 run late in the game was not enough for the IPFW women's basketball team to overcome an early deficit as the Mastodons fell to Northern Kentucky 77-64.
Josie Fisher scored 13 of her team-high 19 points in the fourth as she also led the 'Dons with a pair of assists. Rachel Rinehart finished with 13 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Isis Parker came off the bench to lead the team with a season-high six rebounds to go along with a season-high nine points, and recording her first career block.
The Mastodons took the lead early as Fisher connected on a layup to give the 'Dons an 11-9 lead over the Norse. Northern Kentucky scored the next seven points, as IPFW was unable to regain the lead again after NKU closed out the first quarter with a 13-2 advantage.
Late in the second quarter, the Mastodons went on a 7-0 run over 1:13, cutting the Northern Kentucky lead to 37-26. The Norse responded by scoring four straight to end the half leading 41-26.
Kamilah Carter hit a layup with 19 seconds left in the third before Fisher capped it off with a buzzer-beating layup to begin a Mastodon run. Over a span of 2:42, between the third and fourth quarters, IPFW scored 13 unanswered points to cut the NKU lead to 61-49 with 6:59 to go in the game. The Norse answered with an 11-2 run and ending the Mastodon's hopes for a comeback.
On the night, the 'Dons connected on a season-high 21 free throws in 25 attempts (84%), while shooting 19-of-56 (33.9%) from the floor, and 5-of-20 (25%) from long range.
IPFW returns to action when it travels to Detroit for a game on December 9 at 5 p.m.
