Hahn Named All-Tournament Team as 'Dons Drop Final Match

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The final match of the Hampton Inn Invitational came down to extra points for the IPFW women's volleyball, but the Mastodons were unable to pull out the victory as they fell to tournament host Bowling Green 3-2 (27-25, 21-25, 14-25, 25-18, 19-17). Olivia Hahn was named to the All-Tournament team for the 'Dons.
The Mastodons had five players finish in double-digit digs and four players finish with double-digit kills. It was the first time since Oct. 4, 2013 that IPFW had five players finish with 10 or more digs. The 'Dons also had three players finish with a double-double: Nicole Rightnowar, 12 kills, 10 digs; Madison Jaqua, 24 assists, 16 digs; and Clair Marshall, 20 assists, 16 digs.
Sarah Heckman led the offensive attack for the Mastodons with 13 kills. Natasha Medic finished with 11 kills and hit a match-high .550 from the floor. Natalie Seiler added 10 kills and had a match-high four blocks.
Defensively, Jaqua and Marshall tied with a match-high 16 digs. Somer Johnson and Hahn each added 15 digs.
IPFW began the match with seven straight points, six of which came on kills while the other came on an ace from Hahn. BGSU chipped away at the Mastodon lead taking control late in the set. The 'Dons battled back, tying the score 23-23. The 'Dons fought off two set points but were unable to hang on as Bowling Green took the first set.
The Mastodons took the first two points of the second set, but with the score tied 5-5, the Falcons used a four-point swing to take the lead. Later with IPFW trailing 13-12, it was the 'Dons scoring six of the next seven points to take a lead. Bowling Green cut the Mastodon lead to one, 22-21, but Monica Hall put an end the set as IPFW scored the final three points of the frame.
The third set saw IPFW trailing early before 12-2 and 9-2 runs gave the Mastodons the set victory, taking a 2-1 lead in the match. The 'Dons trailed early in the fourth set before tying the score at 12-12. Bowling Green scored seven of the next 10 points as the match went to the decisive fifth set.
The fifth set opened with the two sides trading five, three-point swings. BGSU look an early lead before the 'Dons scored three straight to take a 4-3 lead. The Falcons followed with three consecutive points to retake the lead. IPFW responded with its second three-point swing to tie the set 6-6. BGSU scored three straight before the 'Dons answered with three more of their own. The two teams traded points down the stretch before the Falcons scored the final three points to take the set and the match.
IPFW returns to action on September 11 to take on Murray State and Eastern Michigan for the first day of the Holiday Inn Classic hosted by Indiana State.
