Mastodons Open Weekend With Win Over Jackrabbits

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne women's volleyball team began its weekend homestand on a high note, defeating South Dakota State 3-1 (25-15, 17-25, 25-17, 25-23.
Nicole Rightnowar led the Mastodons with her third straight double-double, and 10th of the year, with a match-high 18 kills to go along with 10 digs. Natalie Seiler added 11 kills and a team-high two blocks. Somer Johnson and Lauren Hoffman each finished with 10 kills.
Madison Jaqua had a match-high 41 assists and a career-high four aces. Olivia Hahn led all players with 20 digs.
The Mastodons scored the opening point of the match, as they never trailed in the first set thanks to a 10-2 run early on. The second set saw the 'Dons fall behind early, as it was South Dakota State that never trailed, tying the match at a set apiece.
After trailing 5-2 in the third, Fort Wayne went on a tear scoring nine of the next 10 points to lead 11-6 and never trailed again. With the score tied 22-22 in the fourth, the 'Dons scored three of the final four points to take the set and the match.
Fort Wayne goes right back to action as the Mastodons host Oral Roberts Saturday night (Oct. 15) at 7 p.m.
