Mastodons Rumble Past Leathernecks

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne women's volleyball team rumbled past the visiting Western Illinois Leathernecks as the Mastodons swept the match 3-0 (25-9, 25-23, 25-19).
Nicole Rightnowar led the Mastodons with a match-high 13 kills while adding nine digs and two aces. Lauren Hoffman finished with 10 kills while hitting .500 for the night. Somer Johnson, Natalie Seiler and Natasha Medic each added seven kills. Seiler also had a match-high three aces. Madison Jaqua led the way with a match-high 30 assists and Olivia Hahn earned a match-high 13 digs.
The 'Dons hit a season-high .356 for the match and tied a season-high with eight aces.
Fort Wayne jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first set and never looked back while hitting .565 for the frame and holding the Leathernecks to a zero hitting percentage. Trailing 8-7 in the second, the 'Dons used a 4-0 run to retake the lead for good. WIU tied the match 23-23, but the Mastodons scored the final two points to win the set.
With the score tied 4-4 in set number three, the 'Dons broke the tie and took the lead for good thanks to a four-point run and a pair of aces by Jayna Colanese.
Fort Wayne returns to action to host its annual Pink Out match on Saturday (Oct. 22) at 7 p.m. against Omaha.
