Women's Volleyball Takes down Omaha in Annual Pink Out Match

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne women's volleyball team won its annual Pink Out match Saturday night (Oct. 22), defeating Omaha 3-1 (25-11, 25-12, 24-26, 25-8).
The Mastodons were aided by a pair of double-doubles from Nicole Rightnowar and Victoria Mills. Rightnowar finished with a match-high 16 kills and added 10 digs. Mills earned her third career double-double with 16 assists and 10 digs, while also having a career- and match-high three aces.
Somer Johnson finished with 14 kills and Natalie Seiler had 10. Seiler also led the way with a match-high five blocks. Madison Jaqua dished out a game-high 32 assists to go along with eight digs and four kills. Olivia Hahn earned a match-high 21 digs. Jayna Colanese matched a career-best with eight digs and added a pair of aces.
With Omaha leading 2-1, Fort Wayne used a 7-1 advantage to take the lead and sprint through the opening set. The Mastodons held UNO to a -.103 hitting percentage in the first frame. The 'Dons continued to stay hot in the second set as they rolled over the Mavericks with a 15-1 stretch that included a 9-0 run.
Fort Wayne trailed through most of the third set as Omaha scored the final three points to force a fourth set. The two teams exchanged early runs in the final set, as the Mastodons led 6-0 before a four-point run by the Mavs. The 'Dons put the match away as they scored an astounding 15 consecutive points behind the serve of Colanese, nine of which came by way of the kill. The Mastodons hit .538 in the final set while holding UNO to a zero attack percentage.
Fort Wayne returns to action when it hosts Valparaiso on Tuesday (Oct. 25) for a 7 p.m. match.
