Mastodons Drop Midweek Match to Crusaders

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne women's volleyball team dropped is final non-league match of the season as the Mastodons fell to Valparaiso 3-1 (25-14, 21-25, 28-26, 25-22).
Nicole Rightnowar and Madison Jaqua each earned a double-double in the match. Rightnowar had a match-high 17 kills to go along with 17 digs. Jaqua dished out a game-high 48 assists and finished with 11 digs. Somer Johnson just missed out on a double-double with 15 kills and nine digs.
Lauren Hoffman earned 12 kills for the 'Dons. Victoria Mills served up a career-high four aces and added nine digs. Natalie Seiler put down a match-high five blocks (one solo). Olivia Hahn finished with a team-high 22 digs while Jayna Colanese had a career-high 11.
With the score tied 8-8 in the opening set, Valparaiso used a 6-1 run to spark its offense and take the first set. Tied 15-15 in the second, the Mastodons carried a 7-2 advantage down the stretch to tie the match 1-1 heading into the break.
The third frame went to extra points and with the score tied 26-26, the Crusaders were able to take the next two points and win the set. After an early Mastodon lead in the fourth, Valpo used a 6-1 advantage to win the set and the match.
Fort Wayne begins a Summit League weekend when it travels to Denver for an 8 p.m. ET match on Friday, October 28.
