
Bird Leads Mastodons on Opening Day of Kzoo Classic

PORTAGE, Mich. - Through the first two rounds of the Kzoo Classic, the Fort Wayne women's golf team sits in ninth place with rounds of 332-329-661.
Hosted by Western Michigan at The Moors Golf Club, the par-72 course is being played at 6,163 yards. Eastern Michigan leads the field by 13 strokes over Ball State. Individually, Hailey Hrynewich of Ohio carded a 2-under-par 142 to hold a two-stroke lead over the 56-player field.
Fort Wayne enters the final day 11 shots back of eight place Detroit. Madison Chesnutt led the team scoring with rounds of 81-81-162 to tie for 30th. Linnzie Richner ended the day tied for 36th with scores of 86-78-164. One shot back in a tie for 39th is Jenna Kurosky, carding an 80 and 85. Candi Keller shot identical rounds of 85 to card a 170 for the 36-holes and enter the final round tied for 45th. Monica Dorner rounded out the scoring for the 'Dons with an 87-87-174 and tie for 48th.
Playing as an individual, Paige Bird led all Mastodon golfers with a two-round score of 77-82-159 to cap the day tied for 23rd. Bird also led the team with four birdies on the day, two in each round. Abigail Carlsen is also playing as an individual and finished in 55th place after shooting rounds of 91-92-183.
The final round of the Kzoo Classic will be a 10 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday (Oct. 4).
