Mastodons Finish Ninth at Opening Tournament

LEDBETTER, Ky. - The Fort Wayne women's golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the season in ninth place with a final-round 327 to finish the Drake Creek Invitational with a two-day score of 985.
Hosted by Murray State at the par-72, 6,178-yard Drake Creek Golf Course, Western Kentucky captured the team title by 11 strokes with a combined score of 886. Mary Joiner, also of Western Kentucky, took home medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 1-over-par 217.
The Mastodons bested three other teams as Madison Chesnutt led the way on the final day with a 77 to finish at 238 and tie for 41st place. Candi Keller carded an 84 on the day to tie for 48th overall with a two-day score of 245. Abigail Carlsen ended the tournament shooting an 82 to tie for 52nd with a 54-hole score of 248. Linnzie Richner and Jenna Kurosky were separated by one stroke with scores of 259 and 260, to finish in 60th and 61st place, respectively.
Fort Wayne returns to action when the Mastodons travel to Yorktown, Indiana, for the Cardinal Classic September 19-20.
