Mastodons Drop Road Match at Valpo

VALPARAISO, Ind. - The Fort Wayne women's volleyball team was unable to hang on to leads in all three sets of its road match as the Mastodons fell at Valparaiso 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-22).
The 'Dons were led by Elizabeth Fuerst with nine kills, while Katie Crowe and Nicole Rightnowar each had eight. Rightnowar and Crowe also tied for a team-high with 15 digs as Elizabeth Britner added 13. Madison Jaqua led the team with 27 assists.
Trailing early in the first set, the Mastodons put up six straight points to take their first lead of the match 14-11. Valpo answered with a 6-1 run to retake the lead for good. The story was reversed in the second as the 'Dons held the early lead 15-13. The Crusaders used a 5-1 run this time to take the lead and the set. Fort Wayne took a five-point lead in the third, 17-12, but were unable to hang on as Valparaiso closed out the match with an 8-3 advantage.
The Mastodons return home to host a pair of Summit League matches, beginning with Oral Roberts on Friday, October 20, at 7 p.m.
