10/27/2017 10:11:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
VERMILLION, S.D. - The Fort Wayne women's volleyball team was unable to kick off its four-match road trip on a high note, as the Mastodons fell to South Dakota 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-14).
Madison Jaqua led the 'Dons with her sixth double-double of the season, finishing with 18 assists and 10 digs, to go along with a match-high three aces. Offensively, Katie Crowe led the Mastodons with eight kills as Nicole Rightnowar had seven kills and 10 digs. Julia Wayer led Fort Wayne with a match-high 15 digs.
Things looked to be going the Mastodon's way in the opening set as the 'Dons jumped out to a 5-1 lead. USD came back midway through the frame and used a 6-1 run to take the lead for good. Fort Wayne was unable to get things going early in the second set as the Coyotes went up 7-3, as they never trailed. It was a similar result in the third and final set as South Dakota scored the first three points and 10 of the first 13, to win the set and the match.
Fort Wayne returns to action tomorrow night, October 28, as the Mastodons travel to Omaha for a 6 p.m. ET match.
