12/16/2017 6:13:00 PM | Men's Basketball
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Senior Bryson Scott scored 34 points, 26 in the second half, as Fort Wayne defeated Stetson 88-84 on Saturday (Dec. 16) afternoon at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
Scott's 34 points ties his career high. It is his fourth 30-point game of the season.
Scott was 9-of-14 in the second half. His biggest basket came with 17 seconds left in the game. The Mastodons were up by one point at 85-84 when Scott drove to the basket and finished inside. A defensive stop on the other end and a Jax Levitch free throw made the final 88-84.
The 'Dons led for more than 28 minutes in the game, but trailed 47-40 at the break because of a 19-3 Stetson run late in the first half.
After regaining the lead six minutes into the second half, Fort Wayne trailed on only one occasion the rest of the game. Stetson scored six straight points in the final two minutes, but couldn't get over the hump as Scott's late basket clinched the game.
Scott was 9-of-9 from the free throw line and added four steals and four rebounds to his line.
Fort Wayne scored 52 points in the paint and out-rebounded the Hatters 42-27. Jax Levitch earned a career-high 12 rebounds.
Xzavier Taylor had 13 points, one shy of his career mark. John Konchar totaled 17 points with eight rebounds, three steals and two assists.
The 'Dons finished 32-of-63 from the floor (50.8 percent). They connected, however, on only four 3-pointers. It breaks a streak of 85 consecutive games with five or more made 3-pointers. The last time the 'Dons failed to make five 3-pointers in a game was Feb. 7, 2015 when the 'Dons went 4-of-14 against Oral Roberts.
Fort Wayne has now won 20 consecutive home non-league games. The 'Dons improve to 7-5. Stetson falls to 7-6. The 'Dons are back in action on Monday at Indiana. Tip in Bloomington is set for 8 p.m. ET. The game will air on BTN.
