Mastodons Set 54-Hole School Record

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Fort Wayne women's golf closed the final round of the Fort Wayne Spring Classic on Monday (April 3) with a 309 to bring their team score to 943 (313-321-309). The 943 represents a new 54-hole school record. It bests the 956 mark they set earlier this season at Ball State.
The 309 total on Monday is the team's best round of the season.
The Mastodons were led by Monica Dorner. She tied for fourth thanks to a card of 80-75-72=227. Her 72 on Monday was a new career-low round. Madison Chesnutt also turned in a top 10 finish, taking ninth. She totaled a 72-82-80=234 with Saturday's first round marking a new career best. They are the first Mastodons to record a 72 since 2014-15.
Candi Keller tied for 16th firing an 81-84-77=242. Linnzie Richner finished tied for 19th, earning a score of 80-83-80=243. Paige Bird rounded out the home squad, shooting an 85-81-83=249.
Abigail Carlsen (79-85-80=244), Jenna Kurosky (80-79-88=247), Maggie Connelly (84-84-90=258) and Hannah Jennings (102-101-94=297) played as individuals for the 'Dons.
Oakland won the team title, shooting a 293-303-299=895. Oakland's Kylee Sullivan (73-74-75=222) was the individual champion while her teammate Morgan Smith (75-75-53=223) earned the runner-up spot.
Valparaiso bested Fort Wayne by two strokes for second place.
The event was hosted at Pine Valley Country Club, par 71 and 5,966 yards.
Monday's round was Fort Wayne's final tune-up for the Summit League Championship. The conference event will be held in Nebraska City, Nebraska at the Arbor Links Golf Club April 24-26.
