9/1/2017 9:22:00 PM | Women's Soccer
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Despite a blank first half, Fort Wayne women's soccer team fell to Youngstown State 1-0 at Farmers National Bank Stadium on Friday (Sept. 1).
The Mastodons held Youngstown State scoreless in the first half, which marked the third time in a row a Fort Wayne opponent has not scored in the first 45 minutes. The first half was very quiet, having only three shots on goal between the two teams. Hannah Kroger had the only shot on target for the 'Dons in the first half.
The second half was back and forth on the field, but resulted in no scoring until the 80th minute. Courtney Lavin scored the game-winning goal for YSU. Chloee Foor, Deanna Hecht and Kendall Quinn each had a shot in the 72-73 minute stretch, but could not find the back of the net. Eight different Mastodons finished with a shot.
Fort Wayne falls to 0-4-0, while the Penguins improve to 4-1-0, tying their best start in program history. The Mastodons return home on Sunday for a match against Western Michigan. The Broncos and Mastodons went into overtime last season, with WMU taking the 2-1 win.
