Mastodon Comeback Comes Up Just Shy

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - A comeback by the Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball came up just short as the Mastodons fell to Oral Roberts 3-1 (25-19, 25-17, 21-25, 29-27).
The 'Dons were led by Katie Crowe with a team-high 12 kills and adding 15 digs to earn her sixth consecutive double-double. Sydney Boerst finished with 11 kills and a team-high four blocks. Nicole Rightnowar captured her 10th double-double of the season with a match-high 20 digs to go along with 11 kills. Victoria Mills had a team-high 25 assists as Madison Jaqua finished with 15. Elizabeth Britner finished her night with 16 digs.
All four sets saw multiple lead changes, as the two sides traded 14 leads and 30 ties throughout the night. With the score tied 7-7 in the opening frame, the Golden Eagles scored four straight points to carry them to the first-set victory. Early in the second, ORU used a 13-5 advantage to take the set.
Trailing in the third set, the Mastodons fought back to take the lead for good as they used an 8-3 run to go up by five points. The Mastodons came out firing, scoring the first three points of the fourth set. ORU came back before the 'Dons regained the lead. Up by two, 23-21, the Mastodons were unable to put away the set as the Golden Eagles took the lead 25-24. In the end, it was ORU scoring the final two points to take the match.
Purdue Fort Wayne closes out the weekend when it hosts North Dakota State Sunday, October 7 at 1 p.m.
