Mastodons Advance with Sweep of Fighting Hawks in Quarterfinals

DENVER - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball squad swept its way through their quarterfinal match of The Summit League Championship, defeating North Dakota 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-16). The Mastodons improve their record to 18-13 on the season.
The 'Dons were led by Madelyn Wurster's match-high 14 kills, which also tied her career high. Elizabeth Fuerst added 12 kills and hit a team-high .435. Nicole Rightnowar earned her 21st double-double of the season as she finished with 12 kills and 10 digs. Madison Jaqua led the offense with 25 assists and Victoria Mills dished out 16. Elizabeth Britner led the Mastodons with 14 digs.
North Dakota scored the opening point of the match, but from there, the 'Dons responded by scoring five straight points as they never trailed again. UND pulled within one late, but Je'Bria Green and Wurster teamed up for a block to win the set. The two sides traded multiple leads in the second set as Purdue Fort Wayne was trailing late 21-19. The 'Dons would go on a run as they scored six consecutive points to close out the set. The Mastodons kept their foot on the gas pedal in the third, jumping out to a 5-1 lead, never trailing en route to the sweep. As a team, the 'Dons hit .400 in the final set.
The win is the first Summit League Championship victory for the Mastodons since 2013.
With the victory, Purdue Fort Wayne earns an opportunity to take on the Summit League champion Denver Pioneers in the semi-finals tomorrow afternoon (Nov. 17) at 5 p.m. ET.
