Women's Volleyball Falls in Summit League Semifinals to Pioneers

DENVER - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team fought until the end, but the Mastodons were unable to knock off the top-seeded Denver Pioneers, falling 3-0 (27-25, 25-13, 25-20) in the semifinals of The Summit League Championship. The 'Dons end their season with an 18-14 record, their most wins in a season since 2013.
Senior Elizabeth Britner earned the 1,000th dig of her career during the second set, becoming the third Mastodons this season to reach the milestone and the 22nd in program history. In her final match as a Mastodon, she had a match-high 11 digs.
Sydney Boerst lived up to her All-League honor, leading the way with a match-high 11 kills and hit a career-high .786. Madelyn Wurster finished the night with seven kills. Playing in her final match, senior Victoria Mills led the 'Dons with 15 assists.
Senior Nicole Rightnowar capped off her Purdue Fort Wayne career with five kills, seven digs, and three blocks. She ends her time sixth in program history in career kills and seventh in Summit League history. She also ranks 11th in program history in total digs. She was also named to the All-Tournament Team.
In her final match in a Mastodon uniform, senior Madison Jaqua had 14 assists and four digs. Jaqua closes out her career fourth in program history for assists and seventh in Summit League history. She also finishes her four years 19th in team history for career digs.
The Mastodons trailed after the first couple of points of the opening set, but a 4-1 run by the 'Dons gave them their first lead of the match at 6-5. After trading points, the Mastodons scored four straight, and eight of the next 10 to give them their largest lead of the set at 15-10. Purdue Fort Wayne would have a pair of set points, but the Pioneers came back with three straight points to finish the set.
The 'Dons scored the first point of the second set, but Denver answered with the next three. The Mastodons cut the deficit to one at 7-6, before the Pioneers scored 10 straight points to win the set. Denver opened the third set with a 16-10 advantage. Although the 'Dons cut the deficit to two points, they were unable make a comeback and force a fourth set, as their season came to a close.
