Mastodons Sweep North Dakota to Win Summit League Opener

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team started Summit League play on a high note, as the Mastodons swept North Dakota 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-22).
The 'Dons swept UND, who was picked to finish second in the league's preseason poll after they won the Big Sky Conference last season.
Madison Jaqua led the Mastodons with a match-high 41 assists and 16 digs, to earn her sixth double-double of the season. Nicole Rightnowar led the offense with a match-high 18 kills and Elizabeth Fuerst added 10. Katie Crowe earned her fifth double-double of the year with 14 kills and 12 digs. Victoria Mills came off the bench to finish with 11 digs on the afternoon.
The Mastodons jumped out to an early 5-2 lead in the opening set, eventually doubling up the Fighting Hawks 12-6, before going on to take the set. As a team, the 'Dons hit .441 in the set with 16 kills and only one error. After trading multiple leads to open the second set, with the score tied 13-13, the Mastodons used a 4-0 run to go out in front for good. After scoring the opening point of the third, the 'Dons trailed for most of the set. Behind 18-13, the Mastodons caught fire, going on a 9-0 run to take the lead 22-18 and go on to win the match.
Purdue Fort Wayne hosts Western Illinois in a Summit League matchup, Tuesday, September 25 at 6 p.m.
