Women's Volleyball Drops Five Set Road Match

OMAHA, Neb. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team dropped a five-set road match, as the Mastodons fell to Omaha 3-2 (18-25, 25-21, 25-21, 20-25, 15-10).
Katie Crowe led the offense with a season- and match-high 21 kills, to go along with 12 digs for her eighth double-double of the year. Nicole Rightnowar and Madison Jaqua also earned a double-double. Rightnowar finished with 17 kills and 17 digs, while Jaqua had 48 assists and 13 digs. Elizabeth Britner led all players with 24 digs.
Omaha opened the match with the first point, but the Mastodons scored the next four to take the lead. The Mavericks cut the lead to one, but the 'Dons responded with a 5-1 run to extend their lead for good. After trading leads early, the Mastodons held a 15-14 lead in the second. Omaha then scored the next three points, and seven of the next nine, to win the set.
The Mavs began the third set by scoring the first three points. The 'Dons slowly crept back into it and finally knotted things up at 16-16, thanks to a 5-1 run. The Mastodons held a 20-19 lead, before Omaha scored four straight points to regain the lead and win the frame. With UNO leading 13-12 in the fourth, the 'Dons mounted a comeback by scoring four consecutive points to take the lead and force a fifth set. The Mavericks scored the first three points of the fifth set, but this time the Mastodons were unable to find a response.
Purdue Fort Wayne returns home to host Oral Roberts Friday, October 5 at 7 p.m.
