Fourth Quarter Comeback Falls Just Short for Mastodons at ORU

TULSA, Okla. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball team was unable to keep its winning ways going, as the Mastodons fell at Oral Roberts Wednesday night (Jan. 30), 66-56.
Kierstyn Repp led the 'Dons with 15 points. Jaelencia Williams dropped in 12 points and five rebounds. Sh'Toya Sanders added 10 points, five rebounds and a game-high three blocks. De'Jour Young pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
The two teams traded baskets to open the game. With the Mastodons trailing by three in the early goings, the Golden Eagles used a 7-0 run to extend their lead. Later in the first, ORU added an 8-0 run to push its lead to double digits. The 'Dons cut the deficit back to single digits, 45-37, thanks to a 5-0 run midway through the third quarter. The Mastodons would make another run in the fourth. Trailing by 11, 56-45, with 7:50 to play, the 'Dons went on a 7-0 run to cut the deficit down to four. They would cut it to three on a layup from Williams, but that would be it for the Mastodons as Oral Roberts ended the game on a 9-2 advantage.
The 'Dons finished the night shooting 19-of-50 (38%) from the field, 6-of-21 (28.6%) on 3-point attempts, and 12-of-13 (92.3%) at the free throw line. The Mastodons are now 6-15 on the season and 2-7 in Summit League play.
Purdue Fort Wayne returns home to take on Summit League leading South Dakota, Saturday, February 2 at noon.
