Jay Golsteyn Inducted Into MIVA Hall of Fame

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Mastodon alumnus Jay Golsteyn was inducted into the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) Hall of Fame on Saturday (Nov. 2). He joined Marv Zimmermann (George Williams), Ken Mattison (George Williams), Keith Thornburgh (Ball State) and Victor Rivera (Lewis) as the third MIVA Hall of Fame class.
Golsteyn played for the Mastodons from 1986 to 1989, during which he earned All-American status in 1987 and 1989. He is a former NCAA record holder with 44 kills in a match, and he was named the athletic department's Male Athlete of the Year in 1989. His accolades continued with four All-MIVA selections and was selected as the MIVA Player of the Year in 1987 and 1989. Under his leadership, the Mastodons won the regular season MIVA titles in 1986 and 1987.
Golsteyn is still second in Purdue Fort Wayne history in kills (1,939), digs (816), points (2,369) and solo blocks (269). He is also eighth in aces (107) and tied for 10th in sets played (392).
Golsteyn joined former head coach Arnie Ball, former student-athlete Lloy Ball, and Blake Sebring from the Fort Wayne News-Sentinel, who were all inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2018.
