Godfrey Records Career-High 24 In Season Opener at UNLV

LAS VEGAS – Six Mastodons scored eight or more points including Jarred Godfrey's career-high 24, but Purdue Fort Wayne men's basketball dropped the 2019-20 season opener at UNLV 86-71.
Godfrey scored 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting with three assists, three steals and two rebounds while committing no turnovers.
Dylan Carl totaled 11 points while Matt Holba also had double-digits with 10. Brian Patrick, Deonte Billups and DeMierre Black each scored eight points in their first career game for the Mastodons.
After a pair of free throws by Black with 6:42 left, the 'Dons were down 11 at 71-60. However the Runnin' Rebels pulled away over the final six minutes
The first half saw the Mastodons take a 17-14 lead with 11:45 left thanks to a 10-0 run. The Mastodons forced three turnovers in the run as four different 'Dons scored. But UNLV rallied back and thanks to a 12-0 run late in the first half led 39-23 at the break.
UNLV shot 51.9 percent (28-of-54) from the floor in the contest while the 'Dons finished at 48.3 percent (28-of-58). The 'Dons shot 75 percent in the second half.
Jonah Antonio and Cheikh Mbacke Diong each had 17 points for UNLV. Purdue Fort Wayne is 0-1 while UNLV is 1-0.
The 'Dons are back in action on Thursday (Nov. 7) at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. It will be a 7 p.m. start against Manchester.
