Bird Earns Best Finish of Career at Saluki Invitational

CARBONDALE, Ill. - In the final visit to Paige Bird's hometown of her college career, the senior Purdue Fort Wayne women's golfer turned in the best finish of her career, as she tied for fourth place at the Saluki Invitational. As a team, the Mastodons tied for ninth with a 342 during the final round to finish with a 673.
Hosted by Southern Illinois at the par-72, 6,091-yard Hickory Ridge Golf Course, the host Salukis captured the team championship with a two-day score of 615. Thilda Staubo of Indiana State earned the individual medalist honors with an even-par 144.
Bird led the Mastodons on the day with a 79. Playing as an individual, she carded a 155 over 36 holes with seven total birdies, earning a tie for fourth place. For the day, Bird carded a pair of birdies coming on No. 8 and her final hole, the par-5 No. 2.
Holly Anderson led the team scoring for the 'Dons, shooting an 82 on the final day and finishing tied for 23rd with a 162. Emma Schroeder finished her week with an 87 as she tied for 47th with a 169. Abigail Carlsen finished one shot back in a tie for 47th, carding an 86 for the day. Sarah Lewis was tied for 50th place as she shot an 87 for the round and 172 over two days. Kennedy Brooker rounded out the scoring for the team as she tied for 62nd with an 89 and a 178 for the tournament.
Linnzie Richner also played as an individual, as she tied for 39th after carding an 83 on the final day and a 36-hole score of 167.
Purdue Fort Wayne now sets its sights on its home tournament, the Mastodon Spring Invite, April 1 and 2 at Pine Valley Country Club.
