
Carlsen and Mastodons Third After Day One of Summit League Championship

NEWTON, Kan. - Abigail Carlsen shot an opening round 77 at the Summit League Championship to lead the Mastodons at the Sand Creek Station Golf Course. Carlsen is in third place individually, and the Mastodons are tied for third as a team.
The Mastodons finished day one with a 323, just two strokes back of the lead. South Dakota State is leading the Championship with a 321, and Jackrabbit Teresa Toscano leads the field at 2-over 74.
Carlsen opened the day with a pair of birdies on holes three and four. She also birdied nine to shoot an even 36 on the front nine. She paired her 36 with a 41 on the back to finish with her 77 for third place overall. This was her second-best round of the season.
Linnzie Richner followed behind Carlsen with an opening round 79. Richner had six pars and a birdie on the back nine to shoot 37 to pair with her front nine of 42. Richner is tied for seventh overall.
Holly Anderson was two strokes back of Richner with an 81 for a tie at 12th. She birdied the par-five fourth and 16th holes. Emma Schroeder was fourth in line for the Mastodons with an 86, tied for 35th overall. She birdied the par-four sixth en route to a 38 on the front. Paige Bird was fifth for the Mastodons with a 88 with a birdie four on the 16th. She is 41st in the field.
The Mastodons are back on Monday for the second round, pairing with North Dakota State and Oral Roberts. Bird will tee off first for the 'Dons in the second round, taking the first tee at 8:50. Carlsen will be the last on the course for the Mastodons, starting her round at 9:30.
