Mastodons in Sixth After Day Two of Summit League Championship

NEWTON, Kan. - Abigail Carlsen continues to lead the way for Purdue Fort Wayne at the women's golf Summit League Championship, shooting a 79 on the second day for a two-day total of 156. She tied for fifth place heading into the final round, four strokes off the lead.
Carlsen shot a 39 on the front after birdieing the par-five fourth. She had six pars on the back nine for 40. Through two rounds, she has the fourth most birdies of any player in the field. Linnzie Richner is tied for 22nd, shooting a 43-43-86, for a two-day total of 165. Holly Anderson is close behind at 166 after an 85 today for a tie for 27th place. Emma Schroeder is tied for 41st with an 84 today to bring her total to 170. She birdied the 10th just after making the turn, notching a 39 on the back. Paige Bird rounded out the Mastodons with an 84 today (172 two-round total) to be tied for 43rd. Bird birdied the opening hole and the par-five 16th.
The Mastodons sit in sixth as a team at 655, one stroke ahead of North Dakota. Denver has taken the lead after the second round, edging South Dakota by eight shots. The top individual golfer is Pioneer Mary Weinstein, who has a two-day total of 152.
The final round of the championship is set to take place tomorrow (April 23). The Mastodons will begin teeing off at 8:50, with Bird being the first to leave the tee at hole one.
