Zach Schroeder Lowers School-Record Career Scoring Average at League Championship

NEWTON, Kan. - At the Summit League Championship on Monday (April 29), Purdue Fort Wayne saw its program's career scoring average leader play his final round of collegiate golf. Zach Schroeder finished the Championship with a 223 (71-81-71), which put him tied for 12th place. His average will go into the record books at 74.25.
In the first of two rounds played on Monday, Schroeder had three birdies on the front nine. His second 18 of the day was one of consistency, as he carded 15 pars and two birdies for a one-under 71. Clark Tiller was one stroke back of Schroeder at 224, using a 74 and 73 in rounds two and three to tie for 16th. He totaled 13 pars and two birdies in his first round, followed by seven pars and four birdies in the second.
Josh Keating finished his day with a pair of 74's to tie for 21st at 226. He birdied four and parred 23 in the 36 holes of action. Callahan Elzey got a 32nd-place tie with 230, carding an 84 and 73 on Monday. The junior earned 19 pars and four birdies in his final two rounds of the season. Eric Brinker rounded out the Mastodons with an 81 and 74 for a three-round total of 235. He used a bogey-free back nine in his second round to shoot a one-under 35. Brinker tied for 37th place.
As a team, the Mastodons shot 900 for the tournament to earn seventh. The 'Dons topped Western Illinois by 24 and North Dakota by 38 strokes. Denver won the championship with a team score of 874. The Pioneers had the two of the top four golfers with Cal McCoy and Esteban Missura both tying with Oral Roberts' Cody Burrows and North Dakota State's Andrew Israelson at 219. McCoy won the playoff with a birdie on the first hole (No. 18).
The Mastodons concluded the season with a .592 winning percentage, the best in program history.
