Mastodon Alumni Win Gold at USA Volleyball Open National Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Eight Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball alumni won gold medals at the 2019 USA Volleyball Open National Championships, as Beam Pineapple defeated Hustle N Flow 2-0 in the championship match of the 40-and-Over class. Mastodon alumni Lloy Ball, Loren Gebert, Chris Gisslen, Jeff Ptak, Chris Farmer, Jorge Ralat, Will Robbins, and current Mastodon head coach Ryan "Rock" Perrotte were all on the team that went undefeated over the weekend.
Beam Pineapple went 5-0 in pool play to advance to the playoffs, followed by three straight wins to claim gold without a loss. Ball and Gisslen were named to the All-Tournament team, with Ptak taking home Tournament MVP honors.
This is the third straight year that Beam Pineapple has won the 40-and-Over.
