Mastodons Dominate Presbyterian in First Match of Cougar Classic

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - In Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball's 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-21) win over Presbyterian on Friday (Sept. 20), the Mastodons led the Blue Hose in every statistical category.
The 'Dons led in kills (40 to 34), hitting percentage (.274 to .108), assists (39 to 34), aces (six to five), digs (50 to 47) and blocks (10 to two).
In the opening game, Presbyterian led 10-9, but Purdue Fort Wayne went on a 9-3 run that forced a Blue Hose timeout. The Mastodons finished the set on a 4-0 push capped off by a pair of blocks from Madelyn Wurster.
The second set was close until midway through, when the two teams were tied at 15. Sidney Schiller went back to serve after picking up one of her seven kills on the afternoon and drilled two straight aces. Later on, the Mastodons went on a four-point run behind Madison Gates' serve. The 'Dons finished off the second with a kill from Wurster.
Presbyterian led early on in the third set, jumping out to a 12-4 edge. The Mastodons responded with a trio of runs, two of four points and one of three. The end of the set was all 'Dons, as they went on a 6-1 push, which included an ace from Sydney Boerst.
The Mastodons hit .274 as a team, led by Schiller who hit .368. She also finished her day with 10 digs, seven kills, three aces, two blocks. Elizabeth Fuerst and Katie Crowe led the team with nine kills each, both hitting over .350. Rachael Crucis locked down the back line with 18 digs.
Purdue Fort Wayne improves to 4-8, while Presbyterian falls to 4-8. The Mastodons are back in action tomorrow (Sept. 21) with a pair of matches against Central Arkansas and Cougar Classic host SIUE.
