Mastodons Head to Cougar Classic This Weekend

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball is set to play in the Cougar Classic hosted by SIUE this weekend. The Mastodons will play Presbyterian, Central Arkansas and host SIUE.

Scouting Presbyterian
The Blue Hose are 3-7 on the season, coming off a 1-2 weekend at the Davidson Invitational. Two of Presbyterian's wins came against North Carolina Central, the most recent of which was a 3-1 win in their last match of the Davidson Invitational. Allie Wright leads the Blue Hose in hitting percentage (.322) and blocks.
Scouting Central Arkansas
The Sugar Bears are .500 this year, with a 5-5 record. Central Arkansas had its home tournament last weekend, when they hosted and defeated Summit League foe Oral Roberts in five sets. Abbie Harry leads the team with 3.31 kills per set.
Scouting SIUE
SIUE is 5-4, but is taking a three-match losing streak into its home tournament. The three most recent matches have been 3-1 losses to Tulsa, Houston Baptist and UTSA. Rachel McDonald is primarily running the outside, averaging 2.34 kills per set.
Brand New Rivalries
Both Presbyterian and Central Arkansas are new opponents for the Mastodons. Neither team has played against Purdue Fort Wayne in the history of the programs.
Coming Up on 1,500
Purdue Fort Wayne's 1,500th program match will take place against Central Arkansas in the SIUE Tournament on September 21. The Mastodons have a winning percentage over .600 over the course of the program's 42-year history.
She's Already at the Summit
Sydney Boerst is leading the Summit League in total blocks this season with 51. She fourth overall in blocks per set with 1.21 this season.
No Mid-life Crucis Here!
Rachael Crucis has had at least 20 digs in three contests this season. She had 25 digs off the bench against Western Michigan in her first collegiate outing, 23 in the Mastodons' comeback against UC Riverside, and 24 in the 'Dons win over Eastern Illinois.
Comeback Baby!
After dropping the first two sets to UC Riverside 25-7, 25-23, Purdue Fort Wayne won the last three sets 25-23, 29-27, 16-14. Elizabeth Fuerst had 13 kills to lead the team, followed by Madelyn Wurster and Katie Crowe who each had 12. Sydney Boerst had seven blocks to lead the Mastodon defense.
All Them Double-Doubles
Madison Gates has five double-doubles so far this season, including three consecutive double-doubles through the first three matches of the season. These are the first five double-doubles of her career.

Katie Crowe has 23 double-doubles in three years with the Mastodons, 11 of which came in 2018. Of the 23, 15 of them came on Arnie Ball Court. Crowe has four double-double so far this season.
Hittin' High
Sydney Boerst currently ranks second in program history in career hitting percentage at .319. She is the leader in the rally scoring era (2001-present), and only trails Andi Reichart (.362) overall.
Between a Block and a Hard Place
Sydney Boerst holds a 0.94 blocks per set average for her career, which ranks sixth in program history. The next three on the list are Jami Brown, Hailie Ripley and Jenny Miller, who all averaged 0.96 blocks per set in their careers.

Purdue Fort Wayne dropped a four-setter to Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
