FORT WAYNE, Ind. – JoJo Peterson (Johns Creek, Ga./Mount Pisgah HS) and Redford Dunton (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook HS) have each signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Purdue Fort Wayne men's basketball program for the 2021-22 campaign.
"I'm ecstatic about our 2021 recruiting class of JoJo Peterson and Redford Dunton," Mastodon head coach Jon Coffman said. "Our program has lived by the slogan 'Win the Wait' during the off-season to define our efforts to attack our new way of operating, and I have great confidence that we succeeded with both our 2020 spring signees and our early signing period for the class of 2021 during these challenging times. Both JoJo and Redford have played at a high level of high school and AAU basketball, been coached well and come from incredible families. They are tremendous fits both on and off of the court."
As a junior, Peterson (6-5, 175, guard) was first-team all-state by the Atlanta Journal Constitution. He averaged 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals per game as a junior. He helped Mount Pisgah to their first final four and regional championship appearance in school history. He also played for Team Dickerson.
"JoJo brings size, skill and versatility on the perimeter to our program," Coffman said. "He plays well both with the ball in his hands and off the ball, and we are really excited about his ability to create for others off of ball screens and in the open floor. He has had tremendous coaching and brings a high basketball IQ to Fort Wayne."
Dunton (6-7, 190, wing) played his first three seasons at Heritage High School. As a junior, he averaged 16.5 points, 6.5 rebounds per game. He shot 53.0 percent from the floor and 37.0 from three. He was a three-time All-Northern Athletic Conference First Team selection while reaching 1,000 career points. He helped his team to a pair of league titles and a state runner-up finish in 2018. He has transferred to Millbrook High School for his senior season. He also played for Garner Road 3SSB AAU.
"Redford is also a great fit with his size, skill, basketball IQ, versatility and ability to defend multiple positions," Coffman said. "He can really stretch the floor with his ability to shoot and pass the basketball."
The 2020-21 season for the Mastodons will be their first in the Horizon League.
