Know Your Foe
Northern Kentucky is 2-4, but 2-0 in the Horizon League. The Norse dropped their first four to Cincinnati, Akron, Bowling Green and No. 19 Ohio State, but beat Robert Morris in both games of their series last weekend. NKU uses a balanced offensive attack, with three players averaging 9.0 to 11.4 points per game: Lindsey Duvall, Ivy Turner and Ally Niece.
The Series
These two programs have a storied history dating back to their membership in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The two teams have only met twice since moving Division I, which they split at their respective home arenas.
Now That's a First!
Purdue Fort Wayne freshman Jaida Wolfork recorded double-digit rebounds in her first two games as a Mastodon. Given available game-by-game records, she became the first freshman in program history to grab 10 boards in her first two collegiate contests. She was also the first Mastodon freshman to record 10 rebounds in back-to-back games since two players did it in the 1999-2000 season, but Wolfork is the first to do so in the Division I era.
Hess of a Marksman
While she doesn't get to the line all that often, Hannah Hess is excellent from the free throw line. For her career, Hess is a 90.4 percent free throw shooter with a 93.8 percent clip as a junior. She has only missed four of her 42 freebies in her career, one in each of her four seasons.
I'll Take That Basketball, Thank you!
Purdue Fort Wayne is 19th in the country in steals per game, clocking in at 12.8 swipes per game. The Mastodons are also are also 35th in the nation in total steals. The 'Dons had 18 steals against SIUE and 14 at Evansville.
For Dessert I'd Like an Apple Turnover
Purdue Fort Wayne is 10th in the nation in turnovers forced this season, forcing its opponents to cause 23.75 turnovers per contest. The Mastodons are also top-35 in the country in turnover margin with a 5.75 per game margin. Each opponent has caused at least 22 turnovers, while the 'Dons have only committed over 20 in one game.
Starting Off Her Career on the Double!
Purdue Fort Wayne freshman Jaida Wolfork recorded a double-double in her first collegiate contest, dropping in 10 points and pulling down 10 rebounds against SIUE on November 25. She was the first freshman to record a double-double since KeShyra McCarver had a 22-point, 14-rebound performance at Illinois on November 14, 2014.
**Cough Cough**... It Up
In the Mastodons' season opener against SIUE, the 'Dons forced SIUE to commit 28 turnovers. That was the most a Mastodon team has forced since Milwaukee coughed up 29 turnovers against the 'Dons on December 28, 2015.
Last Time Out
The Mastodons dropped a pair of contests to IUPUI to open their Horizon League campaign. Three 'Dons scored in double figures in the second game.
Coming Up
After NKU leaves town, the Mastodons will ring in the New Year with UIC visiting Fort Wayne on January 1 and 2. Both games will be at 3 p.m.
