Callahan Elzey Takes Fifth at Gary Freeman Invitational

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Purdue Fort Wayne senior Callahan Elzey placed fifth at the Gary Freeman with a 74-67-141 at the LPGA International-Jones Course. As a team, Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf placed second with a score of 296-289-585 (+9).
The final round which was originally scheduled for tomorrow (March 13) will not be played due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Elzey started off his day with an opening round with 14 pars and a birdie for a 74 (+2). He birdied hole nine. On his second go-around, he birdied holes two, five, eight, nine, 13, 15 and 16, en route to his 67. He had just two bogeys in his second 18. His 67 ties his career-best round.
Eric Brinker has just one bogey in his opening round, and paired it with 17 pars for a 73. His second round featured birdies on holes six, nine and 16. He shot 73-73-146 (+2), which put him in a tie for seventh with teammate Kasey Lilly. Lilly had five birdies on the day, with three in the opening 18 on eight, nine and 13. His birdies on 12 and 13 in his second round paced him for a 73-73-146.
Jacob Deakyne rounded out the team score with a 76-75-149. He had birdies on 5 and 13 in his opening round and on four and nine in his second. He tied for 13th. Burke Pitz carded a 78-75-153, finishing with one birdie and 27 pars. He placed 16th.
Individually, Cody White brought in a 81-75-156, while Parker Deakyne was two shots back with a 76-82-158, and Jacob Kennedy shot 82-89-171. They finished in 22nd, 26th and 38th, respectively.
Augusta took home the team crown with 283-286-569(-7). Ben van Wyk took home the individual medal with 71-68-139 (-5).
