LEICESTER, England - Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball alumna Anna Lappenküper has signed a two-year contract to play professional basketball with the Leicester Riders in the Women's British Basketball League (WBBL).
While at Purdue Fort Wayne, Lappenküper played in over 3,500 minutes of action for the Mastodons, averaging 10.9 points per game as a senior. She had a career-high 23 points against Oral Roberts on Jan. 16, 2020.
"I am so proud of Anna for accomplishing her goal of playing professionally," Purdue Fort Wayne head coach Niecee Nelson said. "Anna has elevated her game and developed into a guard that is a threat on both sides of the ball. Her defensive intensity will be an asset to the Riders and will help keep them competing for championships. We were blessed to have Anna in our program and I'm excited to see her in action at the next level. Anna's dedication in the classroom earned her repeated recognition on the dean's list and this past year was named an Exemplar student. I'm proud that she will be furthering her education with a master's degree. "
Lappenküper also played a key role in the German national team's success. She helped both the U16s and U20s win gold at the FIBA European Division B Championships. In the 2018 U20 European Division A Championship, she averaged 7.1 points and 3.7 assists per game.
While playing with the Riders, Lappenküper will be working toward a master's degree at Loughborough's School of Business and Economics.
Last season, the Riders finished tied for first in the WBBL Championship standings with a 12-3 record.
