MILWAUKEE – It is safe to the say the Mastodons can't wait to return to Milwaukee. Purdue Fort Wayne shot a single-game school record 70.6 percent (12-of-17) from three in the Mastodons' 81-74 victory over the Panthers on Saturday (Jan. 16) evening. The 'Dons have now won four straight games.
The Mastodons put up a 62.8 percent (27-of-43) shooting percentage in the game. Their prowess was on display in the second half as the Mastodons didn't miss a shot in the first seven and a half minutes of the period. Six of their field goals in this stretch were 3-pointers. It helped the 'Dons take their largest lead of the game of 17 points at 62-45. But as they will do, percentages will even out and as the 'Dons cooled off a little bit, Milwaukee got back in it. The Panthers advanced within five on multiple occasions but a key drive to the hoop and layup by Jarred Godfrey following a timeout with 2:29 left put the 'Dons up seven and in the driver's seat for the win.
Godfrey finished with 18 points, seven assists and six rebounds while adding two steals. Jalon Pipkins had 16 points with a 4-of-4 performance from three. Bobby Planutis added 15 with three 3-pointers. Dylan Carl totaled 10 points with his first 3-pointer of the season.
Six different Mastodons made a 3-pointer to contribute to the record.
The 'Dons out-rebounded Milwaukee 31-25 and didn't allow a single second chance point.
Tafari Simms had a game-high 24 points for the Panthers.
The Panthers fall to 5-4 (4-3 Horizon League). The 'Dons improve to 6-5 (5-5 Horizon League). The 'Dons travel back to Wisconsin next weekend to play at Green Bay.
