Mastodons Go Toe-To-Toe With Milwaukee, But Fall 2-1 In 2 OT

MILWAUKEE – Despite a great effort, the Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team fell to Milwaukee by a score of 2-1 in double overtime on Saturday, Oct. 2 in Milwaukee, Wis.
The Mastodons are just the second team this season to hold the Panthers scoreless in the first half. The only other team was Wisconsin back on Thursday, Sept. 9.
The 'Dons got out to a quick start in the second half with a goal from Isabelle Wissel. It was her first goal in her career. Wissel kicked the ball from near midfield and was able to fit the ball near the top left corner of the net. Her goal was just the fourth goal given up by Milwaukee all season. In addition, the 'Dons are just the third team, along with Wisconsin and Wright State to score a goal on Milwaukee.
The Panthers would quickly strike back with a goal from Kat Van Booven in the 51st minute. Taylor Hattori and Mackenzie Schill were credited with the assists. The game would eventually go into overtime, the second time this season the Panthers would go into overtime. Wisconsin is the only other team to force an overtime when playing Milwaukee. The Panthers would score the game winning goal in the 106th minute, which came off the foot of Rachel Phillpots. The assists were credited to Rafferty Kugler and Lesley Kiesling.
On the night, Milwaukee held a 10-2 shots on goal advantage. Zoe Greenhalge led the 'Dons in shots with three, followed by Kelsey Gallagher who had two. In goal was Samantha Castaneda, she recorded eight saves on the day.
With the loss, the 'Dons fall to 3-5-4 overall and 2-3 in the Horizon League. The Panthers' record improves to 10-1 overall and 5-0 in the Horizon League.
The Mastodons will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 7 (7 p.m.) against Northern Kentucky in Highland Heights, Ky.
