Offense Rolls For Mastodon WVB Against Robert Morris

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team's offense was at its best of the season on Friday (Oct. 29) as the Mastodons beat Robert Morris 3-1 (25-20, 25-10, 20-25, 25-11) in the Gates Sports Center.
The Mastodons finished the match hitting .375, the best since February 9, 2021. This offense was led by 16 kills from Madelyn Wurster, followed by 14 from Katie Crowe and 11 from Molly Mirabelli. All three hit .300 or better, with Mirabelli hitting .611, the team's best individual offensive performance of the season. Madison Gates led the offensive blitzkrieg with 42 of the team's 63 assists. Nicole Jones and Rachael Crucis had nine and eight assists, respectively.
The opening set was highlighted by a 6-0 run that put the 'Dons up 12-8. This push featured five straight kills from four different players. Another 6-0 run from the 'Dons got them rolling in set two, which Crucis capped off with an ace. After a 12-8 lead, the 'Dons went on a 13-2 run to close the set. Crucis got another ace as the set point. The 'Dons hit .371 and .375 in the first two sets.
Set three went to Robert Morris thanks to a .370 hitting performance. After a 15-15 tie, the Colonials went on a 9-3 stretch to force a set point.
From the first serve, set four was all Mastodons. Maggie Castleman had two aces in the opening 5-0 run, then Crowe served for seven straight points. A 4-0 run later on was the icing on the cake. Purdue Fort Wayne hit a red-hot .600 (17-2-25) in the final set.
The Mastodons led RMU in every statistical category except blocks.
Purdue Fort Wayne improves to 7-21, 5-9 Horizon League while Robert Morris falls to 9-16, 2-11. The Mastodons will take Arnie Ball Court again tomorrow at 6 p.m. against Youngstown State, which is coming off a 3-1 loss at IUPUI.
