Purdue Fort Wayne WSOC Beats Findlay 2-0 in Non-League Play

ROSSFORD, Ohio - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team took down NCAA Division II powerhouse Findlay on Wednesday (Feb. 17) with a 2-0 final line.
Findlay, coming off a season that featured a berth to the Division II Midwest Regional, held even with the Mastodons through 45 minutes. Purdue Fort Wayne recorded nine shots in the first half, while the Oilers only had five. None of Findlay's shots were within the 18-yard box. That trend would hold for the entirety of the contest.
After the break, Purdue Fort Wayne did not take long to take the advantage, as Kailyn Wade knocked in a shot to the lower right corner after being set up by Cesiley LaCourt and Rylee Vruggink. The senior from Windsor, Ontario scored her fifth-career goal in the 51st minute for the game-winner.
In the 68th minute, Purdue Fort Wayne had one of its six corner kicks sent into the box that Findlay fumbled and gave up an own goal. This gave the Mastodons the 2-0 score that would hold until time expired.
Purdue Fort Wayne led in corner kicks 6-0 and shots 18-10, with five shots coming on goal. The Oilers only had three on target.
Six Mastodons had multiple shots: Zoe Greenhalge (4), Vruggink (3), Wade (2), Kelsey Gallagher (2), Morgan Reitano (2) and Mackenzie Evans (2). Evans led the team with two shots on goal.
Lorah Pund (1-1-0) got the win for the Mastodons in goal, recording two saves in 71:54 of work. Samantha Castaneda also got a save in her first action as a Mastodon.
Purdue Fort Wayne improves to 1-1-0 while Findlay's record remains at 0-0-0, as the Oilers played this game as an exhibition. The Mastodons are scheduled to play next week on Wednesday (Feb. 24), as they will welcome Cleveland State at Zollner Stadium in Fort Wayne. This is the game to represent the women's soccer program in Purdue Fort Wayne's Pink Week to benefit the Vera Bradley Foundation.
