Jacksonville Beach Golf Club
Owned and operated by the City of Jacksonville Beach, Jax Beach Golf Club has been a staple in the golf world of beach life. There are 50+ years of history in these greens and fairways, starting out as a private 9-hole course and evolving into 18-holes when the City of Jacksonville Beach acquired the facility. Over the years, Jax Beach Golf Club has had many transformations, but none as extensive as the latest renovation that began in January 2018. More than a facelift, the new course was designed to delight and inspire long-time club members and newcomers alike. Golfers will enjoy a fun, playable yet interesting design by acclaimed golf course architect, Harrison Minchew. Among the improvements are lush fairways of 419 Bermuda grass and greens planted with salt-resistant Platinum Paspalum turg. The drainage and irrigation systems have been modernized and use 100% reclaimed water along with reshaped and reconfigured holes that enhance playability. Golfers will appreciate more par-4 holes and fewer water hazards. The biggest change is in the finish with the reconfigured 16th, 17th, and 18th greens. To round out the renovation, upgrades were done in the Pro Shop and a new restaurant opened to all, Sand Trap Bar & Grille. In the Pro Shop, you will find the newest golf attire and accessories as well as equipment for your perfect game. Before, during and after your round of golf, enjoy breakfast, lunch or a snack with a cold beverage in the restaurant or on the patio overlooking the newly expanded Driving Range. With a new look and new energy, we look forward to players "golf the beach" again!
Mastodon Lineup
The Mastodons will travel Holly Anderson, Anna Olafsdottir, Linnzie Richner, Emma Schroeder and Laura Caetano to compete for the team score. Kennedy Brooker will play as an individual.
Forward Thinking
The Purdue Fort Wayne women's golf program is coming into its first season in the Horizon League. Based on Golfstat rankings, the Mastodons would have finished fourth in the Horizon League in 2019-20. They finished at No. 210 in the national rankings, only trailing IUPUI (121), Oakland (201) and Green Bay (205).
A Look Back at the Summit
The Mastodons spent 13 seasons in the Summit League with their first season of League competition in 2007-08. The Mastodons had three head coaches in that time: Jeff Marsh (1 season in League), Jessica Steward (7 seasons), Matt Zedrick (5 seasons). The 'Dons had their best League finish of sixth in 2013-14.
Meet the Newcomers
The Mastodons welcome two fresh faces to the lineup for 2020-21: Arny Dagsdottir and Anna Olafsdottir. Both freshmen hail from Iceland and were members of the same club: GKG Golf Course. Olafsdottir won the club championship in 2019, while Dagsdottir won it the year prior.
Last Time Out
It has been 364 days since the women's golf team has played in a tournament, but the last tournament they played in was the 2020 Benbow Invitational. The Mastodons finished fourth of 14 teams, and Linnzie Richner set the 18-hole school record on the final day with a 69.
Next Time Up
Purdue Fort Wayne has a couple weeks of prep before heading to the Nevel Meade Collegiate in Louisville, Kentucky. That tournament is set to be hosted by fellow Horizon League member Cleveland State.
