Kasey Lilly Earns Runner-Up at #HLGolf Championship

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf's Kasey Lilly recorded a 72 on his final day of play (Tuesday, April 27) at the Horizon League Championship to take second place with a 216 (E) tournament score.
Because he finished in the top-five, Lilly was named to the Horizon League All-Tournament Team. He was the top individual not on the winning team (Oakland).
Lilly's historic season was capped off with 18 holes that featured five birdies. He started his final round with a par and a birdie, the latter of which came on a 165-yard par-3. He birdied seven with a three after his tee shot on the 309-yard par-4 was pin-high to the right of the green. He lagged a putt within striking distance to record the easy three. On the back, he birdied the par-5 10th after reaching in two and narrowly missing his eagle putt. After four consecutive pars from there, Lilly notched two more birdies on 15 and 16.
Through two seasons with the Mastodons, Lilly is the best among all men's golfers in program history. His career average is now 73.55. His sophomore season was the best ever, concluding at 72.6.
Luke Miller tied for 21st with a final round of 80 to move to 229. Two birdies in the first three holes highlighted the front nine, with threes on holes one and three. He turned in two more birdies on the back nine on 15 and 18.
With an eagle highlighting his round, Burke Pitz shot 77 to finish in 24th with a 231. His eagle came on the 10th hole. After striping his drive on the 558-yard par-5, he put his second shot squarely on the green and sunk the 20-footer. On the following hole, his approach went over the back side of the green, but he chipped in from the rough for birdie. He also had 10 pars.
Parker Deakyne finished his career in 40th with a 240. His final round of 83 saw him birdie the third hole and par seven others. His brother, Jacob Deakyne, tied for 45th with a 244 overall. His final round of 76 counted for the team. He birdied the fifth, seventh and eighth holes on the front to shoot 34 (-2). His first shot on seven was in the rough just short of the green on the par-4. The next hole, he putted from the fringe to birdie the 383-yard par-4. He also birdied 16, a 554-yard par-5.
As a team, the Mastodons finished fourth at the Horizon League Championship, tying the best league finish in program history. The 'Dons came in fourth at four Summit League Championships.
Oakland's Thomas Giroux earned the Horizon League individual title while leading the Golden Grizzlies to a team championship. They will move on to the NCAA Regional Tournament.
