Mastodons Drop Final Contest to IUPUI 3-0

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Beautiful weather wasn't enough for the Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team on Monday (April 5) at the Hefner Soccer Complex as the Mastodons fell to IUPUI 3-0 on Senior Day. Emily Gunsett, Cesiley LaCourt, Eliese LaCourt and Lorah Pund were recognized prior to the contest.
IUPUI kicked off the match with the first shot on goal in the fifth minute, but Pund made the save. Freshman Rylee Vruggink took her shot to try and get the 'Dons on the board, but was unsuccessful. It wasn't until the 37th minute when IUPUI's Miranda Ricks found the back of the net off of a corner kick from Jessica Jacobs, allowing the Jaguars to lead 1-0. A little more than a minute later the Jaguars took another corner kick and Natalie McNally was able to score and moved IUPUI's lead 2-0.
Pund made three more saves in the second half, but the Jaguars extended their lead 3-0 after a goal by Kamryn Benscoter. Kailyn Wade took her first shot in the match in the 79th minute, but was off the mark. Vruggink attempted once again to score for the Mastodons at 81:06 and shortly after in the 83rd minute, but was kept off the board.
IUPUI ended the match with a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Pund recorded six saves in the last match of the 2020-21 season. Vurggink earned two shots on goal while Abby Klimkowski contributed one. Kelsey Gallagher tallied two shots while Wade, Morgan Reitano, Klimkowski, and Zoe Greenhalge had one apiece.
Purdue Fort Wayne finishes the season with a record of 3-5-1 (2-5-1 Horizon League) while IUPUI improves to a record of 5-1-2 (5-1-2 Horizon League).
