Women's Soccer Host Morehead State On Sunday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team faces off in a non-league match against Morehead State on Sunday, Aug. 22 (1 p.m.) at the Hefner Soccer Complex.

Scouting The Mastodons
Purdue Fort Wayne opened the regular season with a 0-0 tie against Toledo on Thursday, Aug. 19. The result was the first win or tie against a Mid-American Conference school since 2013 when the Mastodons defeated Ball State 1-0. Zoe Greenhalge led the 'Dons in shots with three and had one shot on goal. Samantha Castaneda made her first collegiate start in goal against Toledo. She racked up eight saves and earned her first career shutout.
The sister duo of Morgan and Bella Reitano had a big impact on the 'Dons two exhibition matches earlier this season. The two combined for three goals and one assist.
Kayla Shebar also had an impact in the 'Dons two exhibition games, scoring two goals. Her quick acceleration and speed makes her a threat anytime she's on the field.
Scouting The Eagles
Morehead State opened the season with a 2-0 win over Alabama State. Abby Vanhoeve got the Eagles on the board with a goal at the 81st minute with an assist from Sarah Faloon. Colleen Swift added a 90th minute penalty kick goal to secure the win for the Eagles
The Eagles are coming off a 2-8 season in 2020 with wins against UT Martin and Austin Peay. Swift is a key returner for the Eagles. She led the team in goals (2), points (4) and shots (15) as well as second in shots on goal (7). Swift is also one of three student-athletes who appeared and started in all 10 games for the Eagles. In 2019, the Eagles finished with a 4-12-2 record. Which included a three-game winning streak.
Warren Lipka enters his 28th season as a head coach, and his 12th season as the head coach at Morehead State. He holds an overall record of 262-247-53, 80 of those wins came at Morehead State. He was awarded the Ohio Valley Conference's coach of the year in 2009, 2010 and 2013. Under Lipka's leadership, the Eagles won the OVC tournament in 2010 and 2013, which led to appearances in the NCAA tournament.
