Another Record Down: Kasey Lilly Breaks 36-Hole Record in Muncie

MUNCIE, Ind. - Kasey Lilly is now the sole owner of the 18-hole, 36-hole and 54-hole records in Purdue Fort Wayne history. On Friday, September 17 at the Earl Yestingmeier Invitational, the Mastodon junior turned in a 135, breaking Zach Schroeder's previous record of 136.
As a team, Purdue Fort Wayne is tied for third in the 13-team field with a score of 290-275-565. The 'Dons only trail Wright State (540) and Ball State (561). The Mastodons are ahead of a pair of Horizon League teams in IUPUI and Northern Kentucky. The 'Dons are tied with Oakland.
With a 70-65-135, Lilly sits in fourth in the 81-golfer field. Lilly finished his opening round at even par thanks to three birdies and 12 pars. He got birdies to fall on the third, fifth and seventh holes. In the afternoon round, Lilly carded three consecutive birdies on holes 2-4. He also got birdies on 10, 12 and 15, after making the turn. He was 4-under in his final six holes.
Tyler Green shot a 72-70-142 to finish his day in a tie for 20th with Hunter Mefford. In his opening round, he had two birdies on the front on holes two and seven. He had 13 pars in the opening round. In his second go-around, Green got an eagle two on the 264-yard par-4 second hole. He also had birdies fall on 10, 11 and 13 after making the turn.
Mefford had a career-best in his second round, finishing 75-67-142 to tie with Green. In his opening round, Mefford got birdies to fall on holes three, seven and 11. In the afternoon, he had birdies on four, six, seven and 18. He finished his round with 10 straight pars.
Reece Compton had his first round score of 73 taken toward the team. He turned in a 73-74-147, with birdies falling on holes three, 12, 14 and 18 in his first 18. After turning in his first scorecard, Compton got five more birdies, coming on holes three, four, 11, 14 and 16. He is in a tie for 42nd.
Brett Seward had rounds of 77-73-150 to tie for 51st. In his first round he had 14 pars. In the afternoon round, he had a birdie fall on the par-5 15th hole to go with his 14 pars.
Burke Pitz finished his first round of the season with a 77-80-157. He competed as an individual, sitting in a tie for 73rd.
Wright State is leading the tournament with a 540. Raider Cole Corder is leading the field with a 130, which featured a 62 in the opening round, which set a new tournament and course record.
The third and final round of the Earl Yestingmeier Invitational will fire off at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 18.
