PK Goal Gives Oakland 1-0 Decision Over Mastodon Women’s Soccer

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team held a 16-10 advantage in shots on Sunday (Sept. 26) afternoon at the Hefner Soccer Complex, but Oakland defeated the Mastodons 1-0.
Oakland scored the only goal of the game in the eighth minute. The Golden Grizzlies earned a penalty kick and Macey Wierenga successfully completed the try for a 1-0 Oakland lead.
The 'Dons held an 8-1 edge in corner kicks in the contest.
The 'Dons held an 8-7 advantage in shots in the first half and an 8-3 edge in the second half. Morgan Reitano recorded a team-high four shots for Purdue Fort Wayne.
A Zoe Greenhalge shot in the 75th minute was saved thanks to a one-handed effort by Oakland keeper Noemi Stadelmann. A shot by Reitano soon after from just a few feet out was just wide. Over the final 30 minutes of the game the Mastodons out-shot Oakland 7-0.
Stadelmann had four saves in the contest. Mastodon goalkeeper Samantha Castaneda added three saves.
Oakland stays undefeated in Horizon League play at 4-7-1 (3-0-1). The 'Dons fall to 3-4-4 (2-2-0).
Purdue Fort Wayne is next in action Saturday (Oct. 2) at Milwaukee in an 8 p.m. ET start. The Panthers are undefeated in Horizon League play.
