Mastodons Earn Senior Day Shutout Over Green Bay 2-0

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Purdue Fort Wayne picked up a key Horizon League women's soccer victory on Sunday (Oct. 16) with a 2-0 decision over Green Bay at the Hefner Soccer Complex. The Mastodons are tied for second place in the league with two matches left.
The Mastodons controlled the vast majority of the match, recording a season-high 29 shots in the contest. It is their most shots in a game since 30 against Southern Illinois on Sept. 6, 2019.
Despite 14 first half shots for the 'Dons, it stayed scoreless to the break. In the 48th minute Bella Reitano knocked through a penalty kick to put the 'Dons up 1-0. It was her second goal of the season.
The defense tightened after the break as Green Bay had just one shot in the second half. Constant Mastodon pressure was rewarded in the 81st minute. Gigi Ricciardi scored thanks to a long cross from Isabelle Wissel. Ricciardi now has four goals on the season. Wissel now has two assists.
The Mastodons now have seven shutouts on the season.
The 'Dons earned the clean sheet with senior goalkeepers Samantha Castaneda and Melina Kozachik contributing to the shutout. They were two of 11 seniors honored prior to the game as part of Senior Day. Gabrielle Fanning, Madde Elliott, Olivia Hansen, Megan Sinnott, Mackenzie Evans, Isabelle Wissel, Kelsey Gallagher, Morgan Reitano and Abby Klimkowski were also honored.
The win moves the Mastodons to 8-3-5 (4-1-3 Horizon). They have 15 points, tied with Oakland and Wright State for the top spot in the league.
Green Bay is now 3-9-2 (1-5-2 Horizon).
The 'Dons finish the regular season with two road matches. First is a trip to Detroit Mercy on Saturday (Oct. 22) before a visit to Cleveland State.
