Schiller and Castleman Earn Horizon League All-Academic Nods

INDIANAPOLIS - The Horizon League announced its #HLVB All-Academic Team on Tuesday (Nov. 15) and Purdue Fort Wayne outside hitters Sidney Schiller and Maggie Castleman were honored. Schiller earned a spot on the All-Academic Team, while Castleman was on the Honorable Mention Team.
To qualify for the All-Academic Team, student-athletes must:
• Participate in 50% of the team's overall contests to be eligible for postseason awards.
• Have completed one (1) year at the member school (excluding summer school) and passed 24 semester (or 36 quarter) credit hours at that institution. Eligible candidates must have completed one academic year prior to the start of their athletic season.
• Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 on a 4.00 scale.
The Honorable Mention Team is for student-athletes who received at least 25 percent of votes, but did not make the All-Academic Team.
Schiller has a 3.98 GPA in the Organizational Leadership program at Purdue Fort Wayne. She finished the 2022 regular season ranked ninth in the league in kills per set. She recorded three matches with 20 or more kills. She will graduate in December of this year.
Castleman, one of five on the Honorable Mention Team, owns a 3.94 GPA in her pursuit of a degree in Elementary Education. She totaled 104 kills in 2022 for an average of 1.81 per set. She has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Schiller and Castleman are the first Mastodons to earn All-Academic recognition by the Horizon League.
