Purdue Fort Wayne Women's Basketball Opens 2022-23 Season on Monday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball team will open the 2022-23 season with a home game against Goshen on Monday (Nov. 7) at 7 p.m. in the Gates Sports Center.

Goshen is 3-0 as of November 2, but have one game at Holy Cross on Saturday before visiting the Mastodons on Monday. The Maple Leafs led by Sa'Drea Rougeau and Zion Neat, who are at 16.0 and 14.0 points per game.

The Mastodons and Maple Leafs have played 10 times dating back to 1977. Goshen won the first four meetings, but the Mastodons won the last three regular-season games. The two teams have played just one non-exhibition contest since 1984.

Purdue Fort Wayne's season free throw percentage of 81.9 percent in 2021-22 was the second-best in the country. Only Iowa finished with a better free throw shooting percentage. This was also the best free throw percentage in program history.

Three Mastodons played in all 28 games last season: Aubrey Stupp, Amellia Bromenschenkel and Audra Emmerson.
Reunited at Last
Sylare Starks and Sydney Graber played together at Homestead High School before going to different schools for college ball. Starks spent two years at Detroit Mercy (2019-21) and Graber played at Central Michigan for two years (2020-22) before coming home to play for the Mastodons.
Meet The Newcomers
Purdue Fort Wayne has seven newcomers for 2022-23: transfers Destinee Marshall and Sydney Graber, and freshmen Klea Kaci, Jaidyn Koerdt, Lauryn Stover, Alaina Diaz and Emma Shimizu. Marshall came from Radford and Graber returned home to Fort Wayne after spending two years at Central Michigan where she played on an NCAA Tournament team.

Purdue Fort Wayne is coming off a 9-21 record and 7-14 Horizon League in the first year under head coach Maria Marchesano. The 'Dons played at Robert Morris in the Horizon League Championship in Moon Township and fell 70-56.
Coming Up
Purdue Fort Wayne will hit the road to play the first of two Big Ten teams this season with Michigan State on Thursday (Nov. 10). The Mastodons will host Maryland later this year.
