FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Amellia Bromenschenkel scored a career-high 22 points in Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball's season opening 90-45 win over Goshen on Monday (Nov. 7).
Bromenschenkel knocked in her 22 points in just 26 minutes on an efficient 9-of-14 shooting. She was also 4-of-7 from 3-point range and grabbed six rebounds. Newcomer Destinee Marshall scored 11 points in her Mastodon debut and Shayla Sellers and Audra Emmerson joined the junior duo in double-figures with 10 points each.
The Mastodons held Goshen under 10 points in two quarters, including a game-low four points in the second period. While containing Goshen to 2-of-9 from the floor, the Mastodons were 9-of-18 for 21 points in the quarter. The 'Dons missed a rare opportunity to score the same number in all quarters, scoring just 21 in the second and 23 in all others.
In the two quarters on either side of halftime, the Mastodons out-scored Goshen 44-11, holding the Maple Leafs to just 5-of-23 shooting (21.7 percent).
Fourteen Mastodons saw the floor, with all but one scoring at least two points. The 'Dons had just seven turnovers, with no one committing more than two. They forced Goshen into 27. The Mastodons' 44.9 percent from the floor was the most since January 29, 2022.
Purdue Fort Wayne starts 2022-23 with a 1-0 record while Goshen stays at 3-1, as the Maple Leafs played this game as an exhibition. The Mastodons will be back in action on Thursday (Nov. 10) at Big Ten foe Michigan State. The 'Dons currently have a one-game win streak against MSU.
