'Dons One Shot Back of Lead at The Jewell

BATAVIA, Ohio - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf is one shot back of the lead at Northern Kentucky's The Jewell tournament through the opening round on Sunday (April 10).
The Mastodons team score in the first round was 294, coming with two 73's from Brett Seward and Tyler Green, and two 74's coming from Kasey Lilly and Hunter Mefford. The 'Dons are one shot behind Chicago State and Youngstown State. CSU's Camron Jones is the individual leader after an opening round 65.
Seward had his 73 come by way of 14 pars and a birdie. He got a three on the 388-yard par-4 13th. Seward's 14 pars was the third-most in the field. Green's 73 featured back-to-back birdies on seven and eight. He turned in 12 pars, the eighth-most in the 77-player tournament. Seward and Green are tied for seventh.
Lilly and Mefford are tied for 10th with 18 to play. Lilly turned in birdies on holes five and 17 with 12 pars. Mefford poured in three birdies on four, six and 13 to go with his 11 pars.
Burke Pitz rounded out those competing for the team score, firing a 78 to tie for 39th. He had birdies on six and 11.
Jadden Ousley, Reece Compton and Corey Ryan competed as individuals. Ousley had the best score of any unattached player, carding a 75 to tie for 21st. Compton shot a 79 to tie for 46th and Ryan took 70th with an opening round 84.
The final round of The Jewell will kick off tomorrow morning (Monday, April 11) with tee times beginning at 9:30 a.m.
