CHARLESTON, Ill. - Two second-half goals were the difference on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 21), as the Eastern Illinois Panthers topped the Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team 2-0 in non-league action.

The Mastodons dominated the first half with a 13-2 edge in shots, but after 45 minutes, it was nil-nil. The 'Dons' first three shots were on target.

After the break, Eastern Illinois struck twice in a two-minute stretch. Jenna Little knocked in both past the outstretched arms of Mastodon keeper Samantha Castaneda.

Purdue Fort Wayne tried to even up the match with several dangerous chances in the second 45. Morgan Reitano took a penalty kick in the 77th minute that bounced off the right post.

The Mastodons out-shot Eastern Illinois 22-12. Purdue Fort Wayne's 22 shots is the most since these two teams met in 2021. Reitano and Marisa Metzger had four shots each.

Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 1-1, while Eastern Illinois improves to 1-0-1. The Mastodons will be back in action on Thursday (Aug. 25). That match will be streamed on ESPN+.
