Mastodons Fall to Sycamores 2-0 in Exhibition Contest

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team started off its exhibition season on Sunday (August 7) with a 2-0 loss to in-state foe Indiana State.
The Mastodons and Sycamores played three 30-minute periods. The Sycamores scored once in each of the second and third periods.
Samantha Castaneda started in goal and held Indiana State scoreless behind three saves. Melina Kozachik and Belle Plautz also saw 30 minutes each in the net.
The Mastodons had two shots on goal in the first seven minutes of action, one from Mackenzie Evans and one from Morgan Reitano. Evans had another shot in the 49th minute for her team-high two shots on goal.
The Sycamores got their first goal in minute 33 when Audrey Stephens beat the Mastodon defense on a feed from Adelaide Wolfe.
Indiana State netted a security goal at 68:00. Celeste Wahlberg scored on one of her match-high five shots, with Chloe Tesny picking up an assist.
The Mastodons recorded four shots, all of which were on goal.
Both Purdue Fort Wayne and Indiana State remain 0-0 after the exhibition contest. Purdue Fort Wayne returns home for another exhibition match against Goshen on Monday, August 15 at 7 p.m. at the Hefner Soccer Complex.
